How to *Actually* Get Healthy in the New Year
I know there are health gurus out there, that will simply say to not overindulge over the holidays and continue to eat cleaner meals, but I believe that we should enjoy all of the things in life, and that includes all of the festive foods! None of us can live healthy 24/7. To be so strict and rigid with one's diet at any time, may cause more stress within the body - which, to me, does not equal better health.
it is time for you to end the diet culture mindset
This brings me to the point of this article -there is no reason to do a diet program or detox after the holidays. A strict detox after the holidays could potentially cause more physical stress on your body, and possibly have you rebound with more weight in the end.
A lot of these FAD DIETS will show fast results, and it is why you see so many hop on the bandwagon, but most of the time when you stop following these strict protocols your body ends up going back to where it was before. Or, worse, it is more taxed with stress hormones and takes longer to even out again, leading to more fatigue, weight gain, and worse, those negative thoughts and defeating feelings that you failed. We all want to be healthier, fit, and strong. But doing something that is a quick fix, almost never will lead to the results you are after.
The Drawbacks of Diet Culture / Strict Detoxes
Physical stress on the body
Rebound weight gain
Hormone imbalance and fatigue
Negative self-talk and feelings of failure
You want sustainable, realistic health to keep up with with your busy momma lifestyle.
Why a Slow, Gentle Approach is More Sustainable
That is why a slow, gentle, and intentional way of eating will not only cleanse your body naturally but will lead to those long-term results you desire.
REMINDER: going slow, has way more benefits:
Naturally supports the body’s own detox systems
Reduces stress and is easier to maintain long-term
Focuses on nutrient density and gradual habit change
Aligns with a busy mom’s lifestyle (no extreme measures)
Mini Self Health Assessement
Listening to what your body needs is the first step to cleansing your body. How do you feel right now?
✧ Are you bloated and uncomfortable?
✧ Is your body craving more movement?
✧ Are you craving specific health food?
✧ Does your mind feel overwhelmed, or depleted after the holidays?
✧ Is your back sore from sitting on the floor wrapping all of those Christmas presents? (that one might be personal …)
Now, what can you do today to start to limit the feeling of (fill in the blank)?
After the holidays, the world will be buzzing with words like detox, cleanse, and New Year’s resolutions for weight loss. Ads will tout everything from joining this program or that one to taking pills or doing a cleanse—most of the time, this involves spending money …
… and let’s be honest, the inflation right now is REAL, and to spend anything extra on health programs is NOT necessary. You can get your health on track and meet all of the goals you set in the new year simply by learning how to read the signals your body is giving you and adding in more natural foods.
4 Simple Steps to Feel Better Naturally
The simplest way to start to gain energy and cleanse your body is to ADD in nutrient-dense, fiber-rich foods & drink water
Your body can clean itself; God created our bodies to detoxify (hello, intestines, liver, and kidneys). Sometimes, these organs need an extra boost! By fueling yourself with more nutrient-dense (+ fiber) foods and drinking water, your body will naturally be able to start to cleanse. You will start to feel lighter, crave healthier foods, and most likely also see an improvement in your mental health!
You can add extras, like drinking warm lemon water in the mornings and then, moving your body very easy. No intense exercise program is required (unless you want one!). Go for a walk with your littles or do some stretches on the floor between folding laundry baskets. Just get your body moving differently in a way that FEELS good to YOU!
REMINDER: YOUR 4 SIMPLE STEPS
Drink more water throughout the day
Eat more fiber-rich foods (like leafy greens, vegetables, fruits)
Consider morning lemon water
Move your body daily, even in small ways (walks, stretches, etc.)
