Juicing Recipes for Glowing Summer Skin

In my mid-twenties, I had the privilege of helping a natural health practitioner open a juice bar. This came at the perfect time in my life, I was finishing my coaching certification in holistic nutrition, so I was aaallll about the healthy lifestyle. This is not to say I am not still into it; just, well, once you become a mother of twins, some of the health priorities change—we can cover that in another blog post. Anyway, one of the things you can say I became addicted to during this time was creating juice and smoothie recipes. I was beyond excited to create juices for this new shop—I got to enjoy more *free* juice annndd bonus; I didn’t have to clean out my own juicer every day, IYKYK!

Ask any health guru out there, and I bet there will be various opinions on whether one should juice or not. One will say it has too much sugar and no fiber, another will say it's a great nutrient boost for your body, and another will say it is worthless if you don’t use a six-hundred dollar juicer. I mean, really, everywhere you turn these days, there is someone with a different opinion who thinks their way is the right and only way.

I am here to put an end to that thinking; we all have to do what is best for us, and newsflash to those so stuck in their ways: the way you do things NOW might not actually work down the road, so be careful what you preach to others! Especially for women, our bodies are constantly changing with each decade, and we need to nurture ourselves through it all.

So what does all of this have to do with getting that summer glowing skin…the main reason you probably clicked on this post…

I just wanted to tell you that some of these recipes might work better for you than others. All of the ingredients used are extremely beneficial for our health, and when our body is working well, our skin naturally glows!! There is a lot more than just juicing your way to glowing skin, but these ingredients are all super helpful in giving your body a good nutrient boost, no matter your reason for wanting to consume more healthy foods in your diet.

Skin Benefits

Beta-carotene helps to protect your skin against UV damage, which is definitely critical when we are enjoying our daily dose of natural Vitamin D, right?!

Vitamin C aids in the production of collagen, which you know by now because it's on, like every single vitamin ad for beauty these days, helps to keep our skin’s elasticity and firmness. Vitamin C also helps our skin tone and texture (that is why you see so many Vitamin C products on the market now with skincare!).

Potassium is crucial for our overall electrolyte balance, which means we are also staying well-hydrated

Polyphenols protect our skin against stress and inflammation. For those who want to geek out on it more: “Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals (unstable molecules that can damage cells) and antioxidants (molecules that neutralize free radicals) in the body.” (source1)

Bromelain helps reduce inflammation in the body, including our skin.
