Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie *shake*

originally posted on the Well-Rooted Motherhood Substack

I have the biggest sweet tooth EVER. It has always been something I have had to be creative with when getting healthier. In my 20s, I spent much time re-creating some of my favorite sweet treats into healthier versions. As I get back into the swing of improving my wellness after these last few years, and it is now the start of summer vacation with the kids, I have realized that 2 p.m. is my hit-the-wall moment; I want to eat something sweet and then take a nap!

To curb those cravings and give me a little energy boost, I started to make one of my favorite smoothies from back in the day, and I wanted to share it with all of you - I hope you enjoy it!

Quick Tips

  • Kids will love this too - they get a treat, but it is filled with ingredients that mom can be happy with!

  • You can add a scoop of your favorite protein powder (my favorite is Teras Whey; you can get it on Thrive Market!)

  • This shake also pairs well with coffee if you need that extra jolt of caffeine.

  • You can replace the Greek yogurt with Kefir (plain), ~ 1/4 cup - 1/3 cup

  • Any milk can be used, from raw milk to plant-based

  • I love adding extra chocolate sauce to mine around the class and always recommend Ghiradelli for chocolate!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Smoothie Shake Recipe

Ingredients

1 frozen banana

2 tbsp peanut butter

2 tbsp raw cacao powder

1 tbsp ground flax

2 tbsp Greek yogurt

~ 1 cup milk *of choice*

ice cubes (to your liking)

extra chocolate sauce, because why not …

combine all ingredients in high-speed blender - minus the chocolate sauce - add that around the glass, before pouring the smoothie in and enjoy =)
